Students begin to use the keyboard in school between kindergarten and second grade. All students complete projects, essays, tests and use educational software on the computer throughout elementary school. By 6th grade, many projects are required to be typed and emailed directly to teachers.

Feltz Therapy Services offers an Introduction to Keyboarding class for children 2nd through 6th grade. This class is taught by an occupational therapist who integrates on-keyboard practice with off-keyboard activities. The objectives include learning home row keys, keyboard functions, keyboard memorization, kinesthetic typing and an increase in speed of typing without looking at the keyboard.
